APPROVED TRANSPORT AND MAIN ROADS INSPECTION CENTRE IN GLADSTONE

Booking your heavy vehicle

Normally speaking, 10 weeks before the current certificate expires, you will receive a reminder notification from TMR to renew your COI. We recommend that you book your vehicle as soon as you receive your notification and advise us of your COI expiry date so we have plenty of time to carry out the inspection.

We will aim to book your vehicle within 2 months of your expire date as to get the most time of your certificate expiry date. If for whatever reason you need to have your vehicle inspected more than 2 month before the current certificate expires, the new certificate will commence from the date the vehicle was inspected.

What vehicles need a Certificate of Inspection (COI)?

In Queensland all trucks over 4.5 tonne GVM and trailers/caravans over 3.5 tonne ATM must have a Certificate of Inspection carried out every year by an AIS (Authorised Inspection Station). These include but not limited to:

• Any Heavy Vehicle over 4.5 tonnes
• Any trailer over 3.5 tonnes
• Any light vehicle over 4.5 tonnes (e.g caravans or vans)
• Mobile home or motorhomes
• Buses
• Tippers
• Prime movers

COI exemptions

Some vehicles are eligible for a COI exemption under certain circumstances. These are:

• A new vehicle during the year after it is first registered.
• A vehicle participating in the maintenance module of the National Heavy Vehicle Accreditation Scheme (NHVAS).
• A vehicle registered with special interest vehicle registration concession
• A vehicle being used solely in an exempt area, which includes the shires of Aurukun, Barcoo, Boulia, Bulloo, Burke, Carpentaria, Cook, Croydon, Diamantina, Doomadgee, Etheridge, Hope Vale, Injinoo, Kowanyama, Lockhart River, Mapoon, Mornington, Napranum, New Mapoon, Pormpuraaw, Quilpie, Torres, Umagico, Warroo and Wujal Wujal. The exemption does not apply if the vehicle is used outside these areas.
